Client story: SABMiller

Preparing high potentials for success

Intensive learning based on business school research

Our partnership

We worked with SABMiller to design and deliver an intense, 6-day European Managers Development Program (EMDP). Based on research by Hult Ashridge Executive Education, the program aligned intensive learning with core organizational competencies to prepare current and future leaders to drive impactful business growth.

With 70,000 employees across 75 countries, SABMiller is one of the world’s largest brewers, with an extensive portfolio of premium and local beer, soft drinks, and fruit juices.

“The program prepares our most talented current and future managers for their next challenges. These managers are all in roles that have a big impact on the business.”

The challenge

The EMDP program needed to tackle a range of organizational challenges at SABMiller, including:

  • Carefully approaching growth across European markets

  • Tackling an increasingly tough ‘share of throat’

  • Developing current and high-potential leaders to support business growth

Our impact

Preparing high potential leaders to drive impactful business growth

The intensive six-day program was designed around core organizational competencies, with a theme that changes each year. The program achieved its aim of preparing SABMiller’s most talented current and future managers to help drive business growth.

Within one year of completing the program:

  • 25% of participants were promoted

  • The company achieved a 95% retention rate

  • Business revenues increased from 2% to 5%, with margin growth beating competitors

These business successes were directly linked to the effectiveness of the company’s global leadership positions. The program turned good leaders into great ones, with participants making better decisions and using supportive coaching to discuss and resolve issues early. It also increased overall confidence, performance, and impact.

Better leaders, better decisions

Participants reported increased overall confidence, performance, and impact upon completing the program.

Real business results in numbers

Within one year of completion, 25% of participants were promoted and business revenues increased from 2% to 5%.
